Expected Salary Range: $84,981.00 - $106,227.00 - $132,784.00

Our typical hiring range will be +/- 5% of the midpoint shown above

The Company

For nearly four decades, BCLC has delivered exceptional gambling entertainment for British Columbians. To fulfill our social purpose we have a vision to revolutionize gambling entertainment through engaging experiences that build and benefit communities. We operate national and provincial lotteries in partnership with 3500 retail partners, provide the games, technology & oversight to 37 brick & mortar casinos, and operate a safe secure and 100% legal online gambling presence PlayNow.com. In our recently completed fiscal year, BCLC generated a record $1.5 billion in net income to the Province of B.C. to support First Nations, host local governments, health care, education and community programs across the province.

The Team

The Social Purpose & Community and Stakeholder Engagement team is a high performing group of professionals who execute BCLC's social purpose of generating win-wins for the greater good and engaging with our community and indigenous stakeholders. Specifically, our Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation team is growing as we continue to build out our Indigenous Relations strategy, creating this newly defined role on our team.

The team is part of a larger team within the Social Purpose & Marketing group. Joining this team means you'll be working with a group of talented professionals in all departments throughout BCLC. As a Crown corporation that earns more than a billion dollars in annual revenue for B.C., BCLC's commitment to giving funds back to the province is an integral part of our business, but still only one piece of the picture for this social purpose organization.

The Role

This newly created role will support BCLC's mandate, as a crown corporation, to establish a clear and sustainable path to lasting and meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous people. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations, The Senior Specialist, Indigenous Relations is responsible for supporting the implementation and ongoing alignment of BCLC policies and programs across BCLC and bringing education and awareness to our people, embedding reconciliation enterprise wide.

What You Will Accomplish:
  • Support the planning, development and implementation of BCLC's Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan to advance indigenous reconciliation objectives across BCLC
  • Develop internal relationships at all levels to build understanding and trust to influence decisions, policies and systems
  • Organize, participate and present in education & awareness events
  • Builds external relationships with Indigenous peoples and BCLC partners (including service providers, municipal staff, public and key industry partners). Act as liaison between BCLC and Indigenous Nations across B.C.
What will make you successful
  • You have strong communication skills, as you will be building relationships internal and external of BCLC and making presentations
  • You are a skilled influencer, able to impart the importance of Truth & Reconciliation, education and build awareness of reconciliation at BCLC
  • You have strong organization skills as you will have multiple initiatives going on at one time
  • You are able to act with diplomacy and tact
  • Lived experience, preferably as an Indigenous person in Canada (First Nations, Metis or Inuit)
  • 3-5 years experience working with or on behalf of Indigenous peoples
  • Completion of a Certificate, Diploma, technical program, Bachelor's degree or other accredited program
  • Proven ability to facilitate a successful outcome between Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures in B.C.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous related legislation and government policy (UN Declaration, Declaration Act, etc)
