The Opportunity:
WSP is growing and has an opportunity for a senior rock mechanics engineer to join our mine stability team. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of rock excavation design projects, ensuring their successful completion within budget and schedule. You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality and innovative solutions.
Please note that although the posting is listed with Vancouver as primary location, we are flexible with offices across Canada.

Salary range (in British Columbia): $124,800 - $171,600
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. What you can expect to do here:
- Provide leadership in all aspects of project work and business development;
- Provide consultation on mining projects for North American and international clients;
- Design, implement, and oversee engineering studies in open pit or underground mining projects;
- Conduct due diligence reviews and independent report work;
- Provide advice to mining operations;
- Offer innovative and specialized solutions to internal and external clients;
- Be available for travel to mine sites as required;
- Mentoring and coaching of technical staff;
- Keep updated with new research and developments within the industry;
- Business development, networking, and building long-term relationships with clients;
- Work collaboratively with other senior members of the Global Mining team to implement the business growth strategy, develop, and maintain relationships with a broad client base;
- In conjunction with the Divisional Leader and support from the Marketing team, identify, coordinate, and undertake marketing and promotional activities for the specialist area region;
- Establish linkages with other business units to support and enhance service delivery;
- Display safety leadership.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- 10-15+ years of relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment;
- An undergraduate or post-graduate degree in mining, geotechnical or geological engineering;
- Currently registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada;
- Expertise in rock mechanics and geological engineering, with a technical specialization;
- Excellent technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence; ability to establish good relationships with clients and colleagues;
- Experience as a consulting engineer or technical services role;
- Proven ability to establish and maintain solid client relationships;
- Knowledge of and ability to use numerical modeling software including Rocscience (Dips, SLIDE, RS2, Examine 3D), Map3D, and Itasca (FLAC2D/3D, UDEC) an asset;
- Strong, client-focused project direction and business development skills;
- Ability to manage risk and have excellent engineering judgement;
- Ability to effectively delegate work and lead diverse, interdisciplinary project teams;
- Business acumen and leadership;
- Spanish and/or French language skills (verbal and written) would be an asset.
