Overview

Are you a seasoned legal or OHS professional? Are you looking for interesting, challenging work that offers work life balance? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Prevention Practice, Quality, and Engineering department as a Senior Prevention Advisor.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of OHS Practice Support, this position is responsible for providing analysis, advice, and leadership on prevention matters to staff within Prevention Services, and participating in related policy, practice, planning, and decision-making activities, including research, development, and management of solutions to complex practice issues, and strategic and quality initiatives.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices.

In this role, you'll work primarily in our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do
  • Develop and communicate corporate practice on prevention matters, provide advice issuing variances and acceptances under the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
  • Provide key expertise on regulation and policy development, and lead the implementation of new regulation, policy or practice requirements including drafting and providing training to staff and management.
  • Provide analysis, advice, and leadership and ensure effective implementation of WorkSafeBC strategies, policies, practices, and services.
  • Design and manage complex research and analytical projects with respect to prevention issues, including legal and practice advice and development.
  • Draft guidelines and other corporate practice and process proposals to support legislative, regulatory and policy requirements/amendments and Divisional and industry practice requirements.
  • Prepare memoranda, Ministerial briefing notes, executive correspondence, decisions, and other materials related to prevention matters.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant statutory, regulatory, policy and practice requirements regarding prevention matters.
  • Make presentations to the Executive Leadership Team and other stakeholders.
  • Offer comprehensive analysis, advice, and leadership to ensure the effective execution of WorkSafeBC and Divisional strategies, policies, practices, and services.

Your background and experience
  • This position requires a degree in law or a graduate degree in public or business administration, ideally with experience of the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in the interpretation and application of legislative, policy and practice requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills are required

We'll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary: $127,804 - $155,281/annually
