The Market Risk - Rates team are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Market Risk Analyst to join our dynamic team which covers repo trading, funding, Canadian Interest Rate Trading and IRT (Interest Rate Internal Risk Transfer). The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and challenging market risks that could impact the risk appetite and capital of our organization. Key responsibilities include monitoring market conditions, assessing risk exposures, and developing risk management policies. This role requires understanding of financial markets, risk management principles, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Market Risk Analyst will work closely with various departments, including trading businesses, Product Control/Finance, and compliance, to develop risk management practices, processes, and methodologies. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key responsibilities include monitoring market conditions, assessing risk exposures, and developing risk management policies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

CUSTOMER
  • The individual should have a high level of analytics, demonstrated good project experience and be able to showcase different ways of motivating and supporting team members, including their manager.
  • Identify and analyze market risks that could impact the organization.
  • Help the team to develop and implement risk management processes and implement industry best practices.
  • Help facilitate leadership, direction, advice, and empowerment of the team, alongside management. Develop analysts through cross-training, indirect coaching (Leading by example) and acting as the go-to person for daily processes and ad-hoc tasks.
  • Monitor market conditions and assess risk exposures.
  • Supervise, train and mentor team members on risk management practices, developing leaders in the future.
  • Prepare and present risk reports to senior management.
  • Conduct stress tests and scenario analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with trading businesses, Product Control/Finance, and compliance.
  • Review and comment on significant P&L drivers by highlighting relationships between market risk events and risk exposures.
  • Provide guidance and support to other departments on risk-related matters.
  • Stay updated on market trends and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in projects that test implementation of risk management tools and systems and provide requirements for implementation.
  • Participate in regular risk assessments and audits.
  • Develop and maintain risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the development of contingency plans for potential market disruptions.

SHAREHOLDER
  • Manage oversight process, risk-based identification and monitoring of related risks and regulatory compliance across the supported functions, while ensuring key controls and processes are effectively managed
  • Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exists
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional / enterprise initiatives as an organizational or subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations
  • Contribute to the development of executive level tools and/or comprehensive market risk frameworks for the management of key risks;
  • Oversee or lead the facilitation and/or implementation of action / remediation plans to address performance / risk / governance issues
  • Proactively identify key business opportunities, research and recommend enhancements / modifications, develop strategies to achieve recommendations and work closely with team to execute and implement
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts

BREADTH & DEPTH
  • Provides coaching, mentorship and guidance to team within area of expertise
  • Establishes effective relationships with different Stakeholders, Business Sponsors, Executives and LOB
  • Focus on short to medium -term issues (e.g. monthly-quarterly)
  • Contributes to the overall discipline and strategy for the respective areas
  • Sound knowledge of external competition, industry and/or market trends in relation to own function / business
  • Generally reports to a Manager

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field such as Quantitative Finance or Computer Sciences.
  • Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA, FRM) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and instruments.
  • Proficiency in risk management tools and software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Experience in developing and implementing risk management policies.
  • Knowledge of quantitative risk assessment techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex financial data.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Experience in preparing risk reports for senior management.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python will be preferred.
