Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Senior Data Developer. We are in the process of migrating to the cloud and are looking for a data engineering professional who is proficient at working in an Azure environment, using Databricks. This position sits within the Medical Affairs Analytics team but will have a close working relationship with the Data and Analytics team. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Senior Data Developer with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide advanced technical expertise in leading other Data Developers to build and deploy data solutions and pipelines across on-premises, public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Support projects covering all programs/services within Data and Analytics and throughout Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
  • Be responsible for designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting data models, data pipelines, and implementing business logic needed to meet a wide range of business requirements.
  • Work closely with project managers, leadership and other functions across the department and VCH.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Data Developers, VCH business and analytics teams, external vendors (e.g. Microsoft, AWS) and other internal or external teams on cross-functional projects.
  • Have a primary focus of ensuring Data and Analytics’ ability to deliver and promote on-premises and cloud-based data solutions within the approved enterprise environments, lead the effort in the areas of design, migration, optimization, and support experience in those environments.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or a data intensive related field plus at least seven (7) years’ experience as a Data Engineer two (2) of which will have been in a senior role or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Data Engineering related certification from at least one cloud service provider required (e.g. Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate).

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Proven ability to develop, deploy and maintain complex multi-tiered data infrastructure, database, and data solutions with on-prem and cloud tools.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience optimizing data solutions and pipelines ensuring scalability, performance, and cost effectiveness are addressed.
  • Strong proficiency developing in SQL languages such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Databricks SQL
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Python, Scala, and Spark with an ability to write efficient and scalable code for data processing/transformation tasks.
  • Strong understanding of coding best practices and modern architectural patterns (eg micro services and message-driven architectures).
  • Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing architecture with solid knowledge of various industry standards.
  • Understanding of software data development, deployment and release processes, and automated test frameworks especially within a DevOps practice and DevOps toolset.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including strengths in working in a team environment with a client/user orientation.
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams with different lines of reporting.
  • Demonstrated technical leader with skills in teaching, coaching and mentoring others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and processes in simple terminology to internal and external stakeholders, including all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and maintenance of high quality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meeting deadlines under pressure, with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions.
  • Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
