About the OpportunityCurrently, TKDN Board of Education has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Vice Principal to join our school, based in Tsay Keh Dene, BC.
The successful candidate must relocate to Tsay Keh Dene, fully immersing in the community to better serve and understand our students' needs.
Reporting to the School Principal, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the activities of teachers and other staff at Tsay Keh Dene School.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the activities of teachers and support staff through the Principal
- Reviewing programs to ensure conformance to provincial standards and developing programs within limits of authority
- Evaluate curriculum, teaching methods and community participation in programs
- Coordinating teaching activities by making personnel assignments, determining class sizes, and preparing timetables
- Organizing and maintaining procedures for record-keeping
- Preparing and administering the program budget
- Directing and coordinating school maintenance services and the use of school facilities
- Recruiting and hiring teachers and other staff as needed
- Attending and participating in extracurricular school activities, staff meetings and cultural initiatives

More About YouTo qualify as a Vice-Principal, you will need a degree in Education or Special Education, preferably a Master's degree. Candidates in the process of getting their Master's degree will also be considered.
A valid BC teaching certificate is required. A teaching certificate from another Canadian province will be accepted if the candidate is willing to obtain a BC teaching certificate.
A minimum of two years experience as Vice-Principal is preferred, but candidates with administrative experience or extensive teaching experience (at least seven years) who demonstrate strong motivation will be considered. Knowledge of the BC curriculum is necessary (or from a different Canadian province/territory).
Please note that all shortlisted candidates must have the ability to undergo a criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance.
A valid class 5 driving licence is required and a class 4 an asset.
The following skills and experience will be strong assets:
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and history
- Experience working in a First Nations community or with Indigenous students
- Experience working with FNESC
- Knowledge of DRUMS (Data Resource User Management System)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience in processing payments or financial transactions
- Good communication skills and willingness to create relationships with community stakeholders and staff
- Outdoor training experience (Canadian Ranger or Army Cadets programs)
