Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Respiratory Therapist to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital as a Clinical Site Coordinator. Apply today to join our team!

As a Respiratory Therapist, Clinical Site Coordinator at Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Work in a team based environment and is responsible for the clinical experience of Respiratory Therapy students during their rotation through the hospital.
  • Work in close collaboration with the TRU Program Coordinator, TRU organizes the training program and coordinates training activities for students within Respiratory Services. These duties include:
    • instructing students in technical and therapeutic procedures,
    • implementing an evaluation system to evaluate student progress during clinical training,
    • acting as a liaison between TRU and hospital personnel,
    • and maintaining various training records and manuals.
  • Demonstrate expertise and leadership in respiratory practice and perform technical and therapeutic procedures as required.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program supplemented with completion of a professional instructional program for teaching at the college level such as Educator Pathway 1 and 2, Instructors Diploma Program or Adult Education Certificate or related health care degree. 
  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam.
  • Three years’ recent, related experience in a tertiary level acute care environment including teaching and/or supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Respiratory Therapy theory, and practice within a client and family centred model.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by BCSRT.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based Respiratory Therapy practice related to clinical areas.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, medical personnel, other health care staff and students, both one-to-one and in-groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop training manuals, instructional material, and evaluation tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and train staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and to establish workload prioritizes in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement training plans.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated continuous education pathway.
  • Skill in the use of equipment, and in techniques appropriate to respiratory therapy.
  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, graphic presentation and database skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
