Reporting to the Executive Director, Provincial Programs, the Provincial Professional Practice Leader (PPPL) is responsible for promoting excellence in medical physics practice and quality of care by methods such as complex medical physics planning, consultation, education, dissemination of research and knowledge translation, and administration across the programs and systems for BC Cancer. The Provincial Professional Practice Leader advances knowledge creation and uptake by engaging in or supporting the use of current research, evidence/best practice standards in order to address professional, program and patient issues and concerns. The Provincial Professional Practice Leader oversees the Provincial Physics Residency Program, including the recruitment, supervision and coordination of residents, strategic planning, budget responsibility, and residency program accreditation. The Provincial Professional Practice Leader is responsible for developing the vision for Professional Practice, with collaboration from regional operations, and ensuring alignment with the mission and strategic goals of Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and BC Cancer. This includes representing the professional practice perspective in decision-making forums across the organization and at a provincial and national level; working collaboratively with regional operations to identify and set service priorities, allocate resources, plan goals and objectives, and provide advice on medical physicist workforce planning to senior leadership that align to the strategic direction of PHSA and BC Cancer; and implementing and monitoring quality improvements and indicators. In addition, the Provincial Professional Practice Leader is responsible for leading and managing the centralized consultation services, administrative support services, and special projects as necessary.

Qualifications:
M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree (Ph.D. preferred) in medical physics from a CAMPEP accredited medical physics program OR Ph.D. degree in physics and a certificate from a CAMPEP accredited medical physics program. Completion of a CAMPEP accredited residency program and at least fifteen (15) years of closely related experience. Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification AND Fellowship in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (FCCPM) certification are required. National and/or international recognition in the field of medical physics, including peer reviewed literature contributions, grant funding, involvement in national or international professional bodies, and academic involvement. Established track record as a teacher and supervisor of graduate students in Medical Physics. A combination of education, experience and demonstrated ability, recognized both internally and externally as equivalent, may be acceptable. Adheres to the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists code of ethics.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $187,972 - $281,960. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
Location: Provincial Position - the candidate must be located near one of the six regional BC Cancer Centre sites.

What you'll do
- Provide professional practice clinical leadership to the BC Cancer medical physicists in the Provincial Radiation Therapy Program in accordance with the highest standards of practice and as required by regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Plan, organize and lead the practice activities of medical physics staff in providing clinical treatment; calibrating equipment; training medical physicist residents, students and technicians; overseeing radiation oncology informatics at BC Cancer; and conducting research and development on best practice techniques, equipment and other topics related to cancer care from a provincial professional practice perspective.
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate the faculty and residents in the Provincial Physics Residency Program. Oversees the recruitment and performance of residents, financial budget, strategic planning and continued residency program accreditation through CAMPEP. Works collaboratively with the Program Directors on the delivery of the residency program.
- Evaluate and coordinate provincial professional practice strategic priorities across the Health System from the professional practice perspective, including program development, accreditation, standardization, and quality assurance.
- Identify, implement, and monitor provincial quality improvement initiatives for medical physics and collaborates with the Medical Director, Provincial RT Program and Regional Leader, Clinical Medical Physics for provincial quality improvement initiatives as required. Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies using evidence-based practice standards to support safe, competent, and ethical practice, including being a key champion for quality improvement across BC Cancer. Works collaboratively to establish and develop discipline-specific practice councils and committees, inter-disciplinary practice council, discipline-specific and inter-disciplinary quality assurance and quality initiative frameworks, and professional practice linkages within BC Cancer and PHSA and with other Health Authorities, educational institutions, and community agencies.
- Promote evidence-based practice and shares knowledge about current research and literature including innovation in practice. Translates and synthesizes research data and outcomes for effective knowledge transfer to medical physics, radiation therapy, radiation oncology professionals and other staff.
- Establish an infrastructure conducive to research, education and innovation initiatives. Develops, implements, participates, and monitors research and academic agendas for the Clinical Medical Physics Professional Practice portfolio. Develops and ensures the achievement of standards, quality indicators, and outcomes across BC Cancer and ensures that processes are in place to foster the professional opportunity within the program.
- Collaborate and establish partnerships with internal and external key members regarding the planning, resource allocation, service priority determination, and strategic direction for the professional practice discipline.
- Represent the professional discipline at key local, provincial, national, and international forums.
- Advance the use of informatics and technology, such as automation, planning and treatment systems, in support of clinical practice in medical physics and collaborates with the Regional Leader, Clinical Medical Physics as required.
