The Provincial Practice Lead provides leadership on a provincial level to further the advancement of breast imaging practice consistent with the standards set by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR), and Health Canada. The Provincial Practice Lead will be responsible for chairing and organizing working groups under the Provincial Medical Imaging Office (PMIO), and is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive plans to improve breast imaging access in the province.

Supporting the PMIO and serving all the BC Health Authorities (HA), this role provides clinical practice and guidance in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as within a client and family-centered care model and the vision and values of the organization. The Provincial Practice Lead works in a team-based environment and is accountable for the development, implementation, and maintenance of practice standards for Breast Imaging within Medical Imaging. Provides provincial leadership, direction and guidance on practice activities and advancing practice, research, and education. Accountabilities include reviewing and implementing consistent practice standards, goals and objectives in conjunction with designated management, radiologists, and other team members and leading the development and standardization of breast imaging-specific policies and procedures, quality assurance, continuing education and training programs, inclusive of coordinating service delivery with HA partners and implementing initiatives that improve access to breast imaging across the province.

The Provincial Practice Lead provides technical leadership and expertise to support efficient and effective operations at a department level while thinking strategically to address system-wide improvements, which may include advising on the technical aspects of equipment and clinical impacts; budget planning, including staffing standards; imaging software, and equipment maintenance, repairs and replacement; establishing and monitoring technical quality assurance activities; and advising centres on issues related to technologist productivity, client relation/interaction, screening appointment scheduling, technical staff training and quality management.

What you'll do
  • Fosters a culture of results through collaboration with the HAs, Ministry, Community Imaging Clinics, and BC Cancer Screening program.
  • Leads the development of an integrated system practice environment and determines priorities and goals for breast imaging in consultation and collaboration with the PMlO, HAs, Community Imaging Clinics, other provincial partners, and the Ministry. Provides leadership and direction towards advancing practice by establishing a strategic direction related to practice, developing, and implementing annual goals to achieve the strategic direction, and posting regular reports on progress towards these goals. Ensures goals include a focus on discipline guidelines/standards, modality resources, evidence-based practices, and review of work practices to address identified issues. Actively promotes a culture of innovation and creativity in practice.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates breast imaging-specific practice standards, guidelines, protocols, policies, and procedures. Reviews existing policies and procedures at various sites and facilitates meetings to develop new standards ensuring consistency of practice. Sustains and monitors practices that are consistent with the guidelines and code of conduct of provincial, national and, where applicable, North American professional and licensing associations' guidelines. Ensures the implementation of approved new/revised policies and procedures by collaborating with supervisory staff to coordinate implementation and training requirements, instructing staff on the policies as required, and resolving issues and concerns.
  • Consults and collaborates with the HAs in developing, maintaining, and evaluating a human resources plan for Breast Imaging. This includes identifying the skill sets required to sustain an adequate workforce and strategies to address workforce gaps.
  • Develops and fosters effective professional relationships with academic institutions, professional and licensing associations, other external agencies, and the Diagnostic Accreditation Program to actively participate in the professional associations, keep informed of developments, implement teaching programs in conjunction with the HAs and academic partners.
  • Reviews and coordinates professional codes of ethics and licensing requirements such as credentialing, licensure, and other practice requirements, to ensure Breast Imaging staff across BC have standardized credentials and competencies.
  • Provides a strategic direction and framework for research for the modality in collaboration with the management team and supervisory staff. Promotes a culture of research through methods such as promoting staff awareness and involvement in research activities, identifying relevant research opportunities such as issues/practice which require research, assisting staff in the development of research and grant submissions, and integrating the application of research findings into practice by incorporating information into policies, procedures, educational programs, and materials. Maintains a database of research proposals being conducted within the modality.
  • Maintains a variety of records and prepares reports as required on various activities by methods such as setting up and updating computerized files and spreadsheets using word processing and spreadsheet software, compiling, recording, and tabulating data from various sources, and summarizing information into report form for budgetary requirements and workload monitoring purposes.
  • Attends/participates on relevant committees to facilitate the resolution of issues and/or to advocate for the goals and objectives of the modality. Liaises with other professionals, provides/receives input related to the modality, evaluates effect of changes in practice, and recommends alternative approaches to ensure accreditation, quality control, safety and practice standards are consistent. Supports the initiatives and advancement of Medical Imaging by facilitating and leading approved special projects in collaboration with designated personnel/team and other health care professionals.
  • Maintains knowledge of developments within breast imaging and sets measurable goals and objectives within a team or individual environment, incorporating the organization's vision, values, goals and corporate plan by methods such as reviewing relevant literature/resources/product information to keep well-informed of new developments and research, consulting with colleagues and other experts within the field, evaluating practice, participating in professional development activities to improve care through new practices, and developing a plan in collaboration with the Director, for professional development; reviews progress to ensure that goals are achieved within established time frames.

What you bring

Qualifications
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus completion of the Medical Radiography Technology diploma, along with advanced specialty courses in Mammography and Breast Imaging, plus a minimum of seven (7) years' recent, related experience, including three (3) years' leadership experience. Current certification with either the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or American Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Sonography Canada as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, and to build and maintain effective relationships. Demonstrated knowledge and clinical experience in program-related services. Ability to participate as an effective member of an interdisciplinary care team and demonstrate leadership through teaching, dissemination of research, and mentoring as well as modelling problem-solving skills across the provincial health care system. Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data to problem-solve effectively.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $$88,990 - $127,923 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
