Reporting to the Director, Strategic Planning North America, the Principal Mineral Processing Engineer will play a crucial role in leading mineral processing studies and building metallurgical models at both Highland Valley Copper (HVC) and Red Dog Operations (RDO), alongside providing mentorship for team members. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Business Planning functions including Life of Mine (LOM) plan, Mine Life Extensions (MLEs) studies and providing support to the 5 Year Business Plan and Annual Budgets as well as Reserve and Resource Statements.

This exciting role offers an outstanding chance to engage with technical and engineering support engaging with process design, laboratory test work management, mine optimization, technical studies, and production reconciliation! Based on the nature of the work, the role requires 15-20% travel and offers flexibility to work hybrid out of our Vancouver office, or can be based in Anchorage, Alaska or site based at Highland Valley Cooper (HVC) in Logan Lake, near Kamloops, BC. The focus of the role is an expected 50% / 50% time split between supporting our HVC and Red Dog (Alaska) mine operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide process and metallurgical oversight for operations and projects for LOM planning and early stage studies
  • Conduct metallurgical analysis and technical interpretation of data to develop and update recovery and throughput models
  • Liaise with the geological team on projects and test work to ensure proper representation of rock types and to assess mineralogical variability. Coordinate metallurgical test work programs within laboratories
  • Curate or refine process design criteria for existing or new project flow sheets
  • Develop capital and operating cost estimates
  • Manage external technical consultants, including development of work scopes, tracking work progress, and ensuring completion of objectives
  • Cultivate effective communication with operating departments (Mine, Mill, Maintenance, and Tailings & Water) to create strategic roadmaps in alignment with long-term objectives
  • Assist with the development of the annual Reserve and Resource statement, acquiring a comprehensive grasp of key measurements and variations
  • Ensure work products remain in compliance with all applicable processing standards and regulations to minimize liabilities
  • Encourage collaboration and communication between various departments, providing constructive feedback as needed
  • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement and effective quality and organizational change

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mining, Mineral Processing, Chemical, Metallurgical Engineering or a related field
  • Applicants need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. ("EGBC") as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.), as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration.
  • At least 15 years of diverse experience in base metals mining, with experience at an operating site
  • Experience in plant operations preferably with engineering experience at a senior or chief metallurgical or mineral processing level
  • The ability to review metallurgical programs and process designs in various commodities and process scales. Capable of providing data analysis and support for metallurgical and process-related complexities
  • Understanding of metallurgical value drivers in mine operations and eventual closure planning
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Integrity, time management and strong work ethic commit
  • A motivated self-starter with able to collaborate in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Exemplified capability to analyze problems, prioritize issues and develop timely and effective solutions
  • Project management experience and a demonstrated ability to lead consultants

Salary Range: $144,000 - $178,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
