What you'll do

• Oversee the delivery of care for the neurology patient population by coordinating patient care delivery, ensuring provision of direct patient care for patients, making adjustments in patient assignments/schedules with accountability for follow-up and patient outcomes.
• Initiate and coordinate assessment and post assessment referrals; respond to patient, family, and health care member's enquiries; and liaise with other support and diagnostic health services in coordinating patient referrals.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, medical staff, health care disciplines, and community agencies to plan patient care in the clinic and community setting.
• Promote and implement teaching for patients, families, and other care team members regarding the various neurological disorders, complications, and modes of management as well as health maintenance and health promotion.
• Act as clinical nursing resource in identifying and providing education for patients, families, nursing staff, health care professionals, community agencies/services, and schools, providing information based on specialized theory and practice.
• Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students by role modeling, preceptoring and participation in formal teaching of education sessions through lecture and demonstration and evaluation to ensure that materials have been learned correctly.
• Consult with educational resources, both in-house and external in developing and implementing continuing education and professional nursing practice development for BC Children's Hospital nursing staff and other hospital and community health professionals related to pediatric neurology.
• Plan and develop educational resources such as pamphlets and patient teaching tools for patient, family, and professional health education for pediatric neurology in consultation with other team members.
• Lead and participate as a member of the health care team in facilitating patient care reviews and conferences.
• Provide input to the Program Manager or delegate and participates in the development of policies, procedures/standards and operational requirements by observing service needs and providing spoken or written suggestions which address patient and family needs and promote effective use of resources. Is accountable for the monitoring and effectiveness of policies and standards related to the care needs of this specialized neurology patient population.
• Identify and implement appropriate resolutions to ethical issues/concerns relating to patients and families in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.
• Promote and participate in the implementation and evaluation of nursing research and quality improvement activities as directed by participating in committee work and by keeping current with the literature and through attendance at education and in-service opportunities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Three (3) to five (5) years recent related clinical nursing experience including ambulatory care experience and/or community health care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• CPR - basic level 1

• Ability to make decisions in an independent manner in a clinical setting.
• Ability to effectively teach.
• Ability to effectively problem solve with integration of information from a variety of nursing, medical and multidisciplinary team members in the clinic and in the community.
• Ability to function and actively participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team and function as a specialized nursing resource.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Physical abilities to perform duties of the job.

• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
