Job Description

What – The Role

Seaspan is seeking a Manager, Wellness & Ability Management to lead occupational and non-occupational injury management, workers' compensation matters, injury prevention, and health promotion across all business units.

The Manager will develop and implement policies and programs that support employee recovery from injury and illness, including stay-at-work programs, return-to-work procedures, graduated return-to-work initiatives, and health-related accommodation requests. They will also take an active role in corporate wellness programs, ensuring best-in-class health and wellness practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with external providers, insurers, and regulatory bodies to ensure timely intervention, treatment plans, and compliance with occupational and non-occupational injury management.
  • Develop and oversee mental health, substance use disorder treatment, and continuing care programs.
  • Manage all health assessments and services across the organization.
  • Handle an active caseload of ability management cases, ensuring modified work offers align with employee recovery and workplace safety.
  • Provide expert injury management guidance to improve claims management, return-to-work outcomes, and employee satisfaction.
  • Lead employee wellness initiatives, including policy development, communication strategies, and educational programs.
  • Work with leadership to develop and implement strategic return-to-work and injury management programs.
  • Advise and coach management on disability claims, active return-to-work programs, and workplace accommodations.
  • Ensure all WorkSafeBC and corporate health & wellness guidelines are met and effectively implemented across operations.

This position is fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule (two days per week) after the initial onboarding period.

Who – The Candidate

We are seeking a qualified and experienced professional with a strong background in ability management, health promotion, and workplace wellness.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Degree or diploma in Nursing, Kinesiology, Integrated Disability Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in ability management, health promotion, and clinic rehabilitation in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in people and project management, including budget oversight and program development.
  • Strong background in developing return-to-work strategies, disability claims management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, coach management, and influence organizational health & wellness policies.
  • Understanding of WorkSafeBC and regulatory requirements, with the ability to operationalize those standards.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative team.
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism.

Where – The Location

This role is based on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, with flexibility to work a hybrid schedule (two days remote per week) after onboarding.

How Much – Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $117,000 - $140,000, based on experience and internal equity.
