Canada's Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program is one of the country's most longstanding and largest tax incentive programs (50 years and $4bn annually). It is intended to create a supportive environment for R&D and foster technological innovation. KPMG's Tax Incentives Practice (TIP) consists of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and accountants, that assist our clients to obtain tax savings and grants through incentive programs like SR&ED .
KPMG is currently seeking a technology-trained professional to join its GTA TIP team. The opportunity is for an engineering or computer science trained/experienced professional working in the Software Development space who is seeking to transition and grow into a consulting role.
In this role, you will directly engage with the client C-Suite, Lead Architects and Directors of Engineering to assess projects for SR&ED value. During discussions with clients, you will assist in identifying software and/or engineering related activities that qualify for the SR&ED program or other technology related incentives (e.g. grants).

What you will do
- Keep abreast of the latest innovative technologies and trends in software development;
- Interview client personnel (predominantly remotely) and conduct workshops to gather pertinent supporting information so that we can articulate compelling arguments for SR&ED project claims;
- Project Management: Plan, organize and execute multiple engagements on time and within budget; for larger engagements, this may involve managing resources of technical specialists;
- Client Management: Develop client relationships and manage client expectations at all levels;
- Responsible to prepare the technical/scientific engagement deliverables related to SR&ED and other grant claims; also to engage with tax authorities to support any claims when needed.
- BSc. or MSc. in Computer Science, Software or Electrical Engineering OR similar field;
- 3 to 5 years of experience in software development or other IT technology R&D capacity or 2+ years of SR&ED experience;
- Superior communications skills (written and verbal) in English;
- Ability to conduct conversations to understand root causes for issues and grasp key development concepts in R&D scope;
- Business acumen and keen sense of curiosity.
- Be exposed to new and exciting technologies and state-of-the art innovations in a wide range of industries (computer science, quantum computing, rocket science, etc.).
- Gain valuable business experience to complement technical training;
- Promote the advancement of scientific innovation and technology in Canada.
