The Ministry of Forests is responsible for supporting a sustainable and competitive future for BC's forest sector, while taking action to keep forests healthy and protect communities in the face of climate change and extreme weather events.

Working with the Campbell River Natural Resource District's Stewardship Team, the Stewardship Forester provides professional services including Resource Monitoring, Silviculture, Strategic Operational Planning, Timber Supply Reviews, Land Based Investment Delivery, and Forest Health. The Stewardship Team in Campbell River administers forest stewardship plans and the woodlot program, leads the local Forest and Range Evaluation Program, and provides input to the Ministry's timber supply review process and other landscape level processes.

Job Requirements:
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment.Under-implementation of this position at the LSO 1A level may be considered, provided an applicant is registered with FPBC and is actively in-training (FIT, ASFIT). Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by Forest Professionals BC and at least one (1) year's directly related experience working in forest resource management such as forest tenures, silviculture, harvesting, stewardship or planning..
  • Experience in consulting with partners and stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.


Preference may be given to those with one (1) or both of the following:
  • Experience engaging and/or consulting with First Nations.
  • At least three (3) years' directly related experience working in forest resource management such as forest tenures, silviculture, harvesting, stewardship or planning.


Provisos:
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

This position is located in Campbell River.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
