Reporting to the GCMC Manager, Project Services, the Lead, IT Systems is responsible for overseeing the implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages while planning, organizing, and executing all IT functions for the GCMC locations including Vancouver and Smithers' offices and Galore Creek Camps during the field season.This position is based out of the Galore Creek Mining Corporation Head Office in Vancouver.

This position requires working with various departments (Network, Collaboration/AV, Security, Service Desk, Risk, change management, Infrastructure) to provide new technical solutions for GCMC and Teck users in GCMC environment. The position is also responsible for configuring new offices, managing inventory, procuring new software and hardware, ordering supplies, coordinating maintenance and replacement of operational equipment, optimizing processes, and liaising with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont).
  • Provides support to customers by assisting them with hardware and software problems via phone, email or chat. Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Respond to incoming requests from end-users in local and remote locations in a courteous manner.
    • Ensure all issues reported are captured in the ticketing system.
    • Ensure Service Requests and tasks are completed by due date.
    • Escalate unresolved incidents to other support teams as per GCMC guidelines.
    • Keep current on knowledge of local network policies, practices, security measures and control documentation.
    • Provide training on the operations and functionality of various applications, and systems.
  • Oversee the implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages.
  • Understand the project business processes; recommend support improvements and implement support best practices.
  • Support GCMC future expansion.
  • Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment.
  • Facilitate the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment, mobility devices, printers and software within established standards and guidelines.
  • Frequent travel to Galore Creek Camps during the field season.
  • Create and monitor IT Department Budget.
  • Upgrade corporate devices as deemed necessary, which includes but not limited to laptops, cell phones, storage devices, monitors, docks, and network equipment.
  • Ability to use ServiceNow, JobForm, Pipefy for logging and monitoring user requests.
  • On-boarding/off-boarding users, managing Azure cloud AD accounts/user groups, monitoring file share permissions.
  • Coordinate with various IT team members at both parent companies and managing parent-company and GCMC users in the GCMC environment.
  • Create Microsoft user accounts for physical card access and coordinating with Risk & Security teams for new accounts or policy changes.
  • Conduct remediation tasks during security incidents.
  • Work Intune MDM (mobile device management) software to manage iPads, tablets, and cell phones.
  • Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers, and administrative systems.
  • Recommend and/or perform upgrades on systems to ensure longevity.
  • Maintain local network policies, practices, security measures and control documentation.
  • Participate in special projects as requested.
  • Arrange for external technical support where problems cannot be resolved in house.
  • Keep company informed of current issues and resolutions.
  • Keep track of the Office 365, Polycom Desk phone, and Trio speaker phone licenses.
  • Administering SharePoint, server storage, license availabilities.
  • Ensure Service Requests and tasks are completed by due date.
  • Complete Service Requests following established guidelines and procedures.
  • Review workflow and recommend/implement changes as necessary.
  • Excellent knowledge of new trends and emerging technologies in the IT industry, specifically as it relates to Client Services, A+ Computer Technician, Networking Fundamentals.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deliverables in time sensitive / high pressure situations while maintaining professionalism.
  • Continually assess and advocate for standardization where feasible.
  • New systems and/or software implementation.
  • Requires creative problem solving in high-pressure situations.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with GCMC office and site teams.
  • Assist in protecting the organization's systems and networks from cyber threats.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in an enterprise technical support role.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Strong technical, analytic and problem-solving abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT security risks and data management.
  • Background working with satellite systems, PtP setups, cellular/fiber networks.
  • Extensive experience with an incident management system (ConnectWise/ServiceNow ticketing systems or similar) is a must.
  • Strong knowledge of PC hardware and software technology and remote diagnostics tools.
  • Knowledge of client/server networking and telephony systems.
  • Familiarity with remote tools such as SCCM Remote Control, TeamViewer, Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop.
  • Fundamental knowledge of client/server systems, networking, and telephony.
  • Working understanding of switches, access points, routers, and firewall.
  • Must be familiar with all components of laptops and desktops and be able to replace peripheral components, perform upgrades and repairs to legacy systems.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft products.
  • Experience working with third party service providers and evaluation of outsourced IT support services.
  • Process-oriented; strives to align work volume/variety with the intent of making it efficient and repeatable.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strives to provide clarity in the face of ambiguity.

  • Basic understanding of network security, operating systems, and common cybersecurity tools.

Pay Range (Annual Salary): $103,000 - 128,000
