Job Description

We are seeking a General Labourer to join our LOCAL Team. The ideal candidate will have experience working on demolition projects, but could also have relevant experienced in construction, agriculture, mechanical and/or industrial settings. This individual will ideally have experience in demolition, construction, metals recycling, and working alongside heavy equipment. Our General Labourer will be responsible for safe and effectively undertaking physical labour at projects and facility locations; loading, offloading and scaling trucks; managing paperwork such as BOLs and Safety related documents at LOCAL’s projects throughout Western Canada. Responsibilities

  • Adherence to all LOCAL safety policies and procedures
  • Attend and contribute to all safety-related meetings
  • Sweeping, shoveling and general cleanup
  • Spotting for trucks and other vehicles
  • Scaling in trucks and vehicles
  • Sorting and scaling products that come in to site
  • Familiar with operating and servicing small equipment such as forklifts, skid steer and tools such as cut-off saws, grinders, shears and balers
  • Responsible for sorting non-ferrous material, cutting material to size and packaging
  • Must be familiar and have experience with small power tools
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
  • Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Product knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous material is an asset
  • General labouring experience in a mechanical, industrial, commercial, warehouse or farm setting is preferential
  • Experience welding and torch cutting would be an asset
  • Previous metal recycling industry experience would be an asset
  • Ability to adhere to all of LOCAL’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements
  • Ability to follow, contribute to, and complete any required safety documentation
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy objects in a safe and efficient manner
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, punctual, and arrives fit for duty everyday 
  • Willingness to work away from home as part of a project,
  • Certification in WHIMS, H2S, CSTS, First Aid would be considered an asset
  • Basic computer skills
