Job Summary
The Team
The Tax Appeals and Litigation Branch (TALB) conducts thorough and impartial reviews of appeals on behalf of the Minister of Finance under more than 15 tax and revenue statutes to support fair tax administration. Appeals and litigation involve complex legal and accounting issues across a variety of businesses and industries, and outcomes on appeal can significantly affect the tax base. Members of TALB work with a wide range of taxpayers including individuals, corporations and multinational companies as well as their legal and financial representatives. A recent Top Work Unit Award winner for the fourth time in a row, TALB provides a flexible work environment supporting a healthy work life balance.
The Role
In your work as an Appeals Officer, you will assimilate complex facts, assess the merits of legal arguments, weigh the evidentiary value of materials, and analyze applicable legislation. Upon completion of the review process, you will prepare a written recommendation on the disposition of each appeal. Working with your TALB teammates and your colleagues in program areas, you help to ensure BC's tax administration is fair and BC's tax statutes are correctly applied.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CGA, CMA, or CPA) with good standing. Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.
- Two (2) years auditing experience involving exposure to a wide variety of businesses and industries, including preparing financial statements and preparing or auditing personal and corporate tax returns.
- Experience analyzing complex factual, business or legal issues.
