Overview

Reporting to the Financial Services, the Financial Services Specialist will provide financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and internal control-related expertise to the assigned client group. In this role, you'll prepare budgets and variance analysis and interpret and apply financial policies per WorkSafeBC corporate financial structure. The financial services specialist will be part of a larger Financial Services team and be a trusted advisor to the operational clients while maintaining financial oversight and governance.

Where will you work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do
  • Assists in coordinating the annual budget preparation.
  • Review month-end reports of cost centers to identify significant variances and trends and lead the investigation to determine appropriate action to address the situation.
  • Provides training on budgeting and other financial and administrative policies and procedures
  • Analyze and summarize data for decision-making and research topics to provide information and resolve issues.
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures related to financial and administrative matters.
  • Assists with special projects for the Corporate Controllers Department, ensuring timely completion and implementation.

Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for someone who can:
  • Clearly and professionally present project or task information to a variety of technical and non-technical individuals, both verbally and in writing
  • Gather and analyze information, evaluate alternate solutions, and recommend appropriate courses of action
  • Apply working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and/or general knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Build relationships with clients

Your background and experience
  • Post-secondary education , plus completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • A minimum of one year of directly related experience in private or public accounting
  • Knowledge and experience with financial systems (PeopleSoft) is an asset
  • We'll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary: $84,471 - $102,632 annually
