This role will predominantly work remotely, however, there will be requirements for the incumbent to work on site at one of the BC Cancer regional centres, therefore the successful candidate is expected to live within the community of one of the existing regional centres. Due to the nature of the role, the ability to travel is also required.

The Clinical Nurse Educator utilizes evidence and learning theory to develop, facilitate and evaluate educational programs. The Clinical Nurse Educator acts as a research and clinical resource for nurses, nursing students and the interdisciplinary team in the regional centres and the Community Oncology Network. They collaborate with leaders including the Manager Clinical Services and Regional Nursing Lead, Clinical Nurse Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Leaders, Charge Nurses and community nursing leaders to ensure that the educational needs of nursing staff are met. The Clinical Nurse Educator supports the Clinical Nurse Leaders in their work to orient, mentor and support direct care nurses on a daily basis.

The focus of the Clinical Nurse Educator is to support interdisciplinary orientation and education at the regional centres. The Clinical Nurse Educator also collaborates with centre leadership and educators in Radiation Therapy and Pharmacy to develop, facilitate and deliver interdisciplinary education at the regional centres and to provide provincially-designed, centre wide orientation and educational supports and programs on an as needed basis.

What you'll do
  • Determine education priorities by completing learning needs assessments of individuals or groups in collaboration with the Manager/Clinical Nurse Leaders.
  • Develop and revise educational programs through a process of research, consultation education development monitoring and updating.
  • Deliver certification courses in topics such as Chemotherapy Care, Radiation Therapy Nursing, IV therapy, and Central Venous Catheter care to nurses by means such as preparing written materials, facilitating workshops and overseeing clinical practice sessions.
  • Organize and deliver agency-wide orientation sessions for new nursing employees as part of a network of Nurse Educators by means such as presenting clinical skills, practice tools and other related information.
  • Support Clinical Nurse Leaders to orient, preceptor, mentor and support direct care nurses/other staff in their clinical responsibilities.

What you bring

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
  • Three (3) years of recent experience in oncology nursing, including one (1) year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Completion of Oncology Nursing Certification is an asset.

  • Develop, utilize and evaluate clinical practice resources.
  • Develop and deliver teaching/learning modalities and education materials that promote evidence informed/best practice.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide leadership and work direction in a coaching/mentoring role.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Wage: $49.20 to $67.08 per hour. As of April 1, 2024 this position may qualify for a one-time recruitment incentive up to $15,000, $20,000 or $30,000 (subject to funding availability).
