Autobody Technicians:  Harvey 2614

We are currently looking for Red Seal Autobody Technicians, and 3rd. and 4th. year Autobody Technicians, for the Langley, and the Lower Mainland of Vancouver BC.

Position Summary:

Our apprenticeship program includes 4 distinct levels of development and experience, eventually leading to an individual earning his/her Red Seal Certification as an Autobody Technician.

Position reports to: Location Manager

Each position level focuses on the various stages of Accelerated Repair System.                                                           

A willingness to learn and develop the necessary skills required for efficient and quality repairs are a key requirement for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Level 1 - activities include:

  1. Damage Analysis System (DA) – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Understanding and following the mapping on repairs
  2. Maintaining a clean parts cart & tagging it with an RO#.
  3. Bagging & tagging all parts, hardware and fasteners during disassembly.
  4. Disassembly of parts from Domestic, Import and European vehicles to assist the repair and paint process.
  5. Identifying and mapping visible and hidden damage during disassembly.
  6. Efficiently remove and install parts and hardware on all types of vehicles.
  1. Glass – activities include:
  1. Repairing Rock Chips.
  2. Replacement of ”bolt-in” glass on all types of vehicles
  1. Panel Replacement – activities include the ability, efficiency and quality of the following:
  1. New and recycled door replacement
  2. Trunk, hatch and tailgate replacement
  3. Fender replacement
  4. Hood replacement
  5. Bumper replacement
  6. Bolt-on radiator support replacement
  7. Test fitting parts prior to paint
  1. Sheet Metal Repair – activities include:
  1. Performing sheet metal repairs < 4 Hours.
  1. Mechanical – activities include:
  1. A/C discharge & recharge
  2. A/C condenser replacement
  3. Radiator replacement
  4. Replacement of miscellaneous mechanical parts commonly damaged in collisions (air intake, exhaust/muffler, electrical pigtails)
  1. Quality Control – activities include:
  1. Ensuring each stage of the repair is completed to company standards for quality.
  2. Completing the Quality Checklist after each repair stage.
  1. Other – activities and abilities include:
  1. Ability to use & understand work order.
  2. Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of Repair Vs. Replace.
  3. Ability to solve problems before asking for assistance.

Level 2 – In addition to successfully performing Level 1 activities, Level 2 activities include:

  1. Sheet Metal Repair – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Perform sheet metal repair for 4-8 hours.
  1. Structural Repair – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Ability to use pulling equipment (Car-O-Liner, Wedge Clamp, etc.)
  2. Frame repair of < 4 Hours
  1. Panel Replacement – activities include the ability, efficiency and quality of the following:
  1. Door skin replacement
  2. End panel replacement
  1. Mechanical – activities include the ability, efficiency and quality of the following:
  1. Front suspension components and assemble replacement
  2. Rear suspension components and assemble replacement
  3. Axle shaft replacement

Level 3 – In addition to successfully performing activities identified under Levels 1 & 2, Level 3 activities include:

  1. Sheet Metal Repair – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Sheet Metal Repair of 8-12 Hours
  1. Structural Repair – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Understand and use a 3D measuring system and vehicle specs (Car-O-Liner, Wedge Clamp, etc.) to assist with repairs
  2. Frame repair of 4-8 Hours
  1. Panel Replacement – activities include the ability, efficiency and quality of repairing / replacing the following:
  1. "B" pillar / Center post
  2. "C" Pillar / Dog leg
  3. Rocker panel
  4. Welded radiator support

Level 4 – In addition to successfully performing activities identified under Levels 1, 2 & 3, Level 4 activities include:

  1. Aluminum & Sheet Metal Repair – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Sheet Metal Repair of 12+ Hours
  2. Aluminum repair (select locations)
  1. Structural Repair – Ability to perform the following activities:
  1. Frame repair greater than 8 hours
  1. Panel Replacement – activities include the ability, efficiency and Quality of repairing / replacing the following:
  1. "A" pillar / Hinge pillar
  2. Quarter panel replacement
  3. Roof skin
  4. Rear floor section

Red Seal Certification – Successful completion of the Inter-provincial Red Seal program and achieving a designation as a Motor Vehicle Body Repairer.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license.
  • Red Seal Certification – Motor Vehicle Repair required.
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of experience in the automotive collision repair industry.
  • Competency on color matching is required.
  • Ability to provide leadership by fostering learning or development of others based on operation needs and future objectives.
  • Thoroughness in accomplishing a task through concern for all areas involved, situation and/or work-related problem as a means of achieving optimal efficiency and effectiveness in performing job duties.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse personalities in a tactful, decisive, and resourceful manner.
  • Capability to achieve efficient, timely, quality results by directing efforts on expected outcomes while providing exemplary client service within expected timeframes.

Working Conditions:

  • Works indoors and outdoors.
  • Will work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Required to wear PPE occasionally such as respiratory equipment, steel toe boots, gloves & protective eyewear.
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasional and indirect exposure to hazardous materials while walking the shop grounds.
  • Required to drive customer cars when moving them around the shop.
  • Intermittent exposure to loud noises when in the shop.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions outlined above, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to lift 30 – 75 lbs.

  • Indirect report: Body Apprentices

 

This is a full-time position

Salary of up to $100,000 or more, depending on your production.

Red Seal Autobody Technicians average salary of $120,000 to $190,000 per year

3rd. and 4th year apprentices’ average salary of $90,000 to $120,000 per year
