Job Description
Established building products distribution and installation company is looking for an Accounting /Administrative Assistant. This is an exceptional career opportunity for someone with solid accounting/bookkeeping and administrative skills and experience who has an interest in working in a dynamic environment working with an excellent team of proven professionals.
The position of Accounting/Administrative Assistant is primarily responsible for the accounting and payroll functions for this locally owned company and may assist with other Office management functions as required.
Job Duties:
- Maintain general ledgers and financial statements/Reconcile accounts and bank statement/Post journal entries
- Administer payroll in accordance with CRA requirements, including processing payroll, issuing pay cheques, calculating source deductions, vacation pay, issuing ROEs and T4s, investigating and resolving payroll issues
- Prepare statistical, financial, payroll and accounting reports including trial balances, adjusting entries, both monthly and year-end
- Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using computerized bookkeeping systems
- Establish and maintain bank and credit card reconciliation on company accounts
- Assist with inventory control
- Calculate and file government remittances such as tax return, GST, payroll deduction, WCB and other filings/Ensure organization complies with all regulatory reporting and requirements
- Prepare cheques for payroll, vendors, suppliers, expenses, and other payments
- Interact with external certified accountant to produce year-end statements
- Notify the General Manager of accounting errors or issues
Job Requirements:
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in accounting/bookkeeping preferably within a manufacturing environment
- High school graduation with completion of a post-secondary diploma in accounting/bookkeeping or related program/courses
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar programs
- Expert ability using Microsoft Office and Excel
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational and people skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing circumstances and situations
- Outgoing personality with good people skills
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
